A smooth transition to seventh grade

The seventh-grade Spanish class walked through the Counseling Center, then on to the Main Office. “This is where you come when you’re late, or you lost your ID, or you need to sign out and leave school early,” said teacher and tour guide Jonathan Hansonbrook. “You can also just stop in and say hello!”

Next stop: the gym. “When you go to PE, this is the door to use,” the teacher said.

seventh grade tour

Campus tours are just one aspect of Seventh Grade Orientation. It spans a full week, from a fun On Deck Day before school starts, through first week activities in students’ class rotations, to an all-grade assembly on September 9. Throughout ice-breaker games and more formal reviews of school procedures, students have an opportunity to ask questions. “Is the library open after school? What if I’m absent for a test? Can I go to the cafeteria during my free period?

“We want all students to feel valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential,” said Principal Kyle Hosier.

By the end of the tour, the class was back where they started, in the Spanish classroom.

“How many Seely Place graduates have met a new friend from Greenville, and vice versa?” asked Mr. Hansonbrook.  Every hand went up.

“How are you liking changing classes?” Thumbs up.

“What I want you to remember,” said Mr. Hansonbrook, “is that all adults are here to support you.”
